Bristol Antifascists

Bristol Antifascists is a group of local people committed to opposing fascism and all that it stands for. Part of the national Anti-Fascist Network, we stand alongside other groups and individuals worldwide in the fight to keep our streets and communities free from fascist ideas and activity. We aim to play a part in building a genuine grassroots movement which is strong, effective and rooted in our workplaces and communities. As militant antifascists we organise on principles of equality, solidarity and direct action. We believe in organising for ourselves, building links and joining forces to defeat racism and fascism wherever they raise their ugly head. To beat the fascists and the far-right we will need all sorts of tactics and actions, organisation and strength in numbers.

Bristol radical history group

Bristol Radical History Group was formed in 2006 after the cricket and football teams we were playing for got sick of us going on about the book The Many Headed Hydra and its connections to Bristol. This book inspired us to look into our local history and its connections with the revolutionary Atlantic. We organised the first Bristol Radical History Week in Oct/Nov 2006 with the following aims:

  • To open up some of the ‘hidden’ history of Bristol and the West Country to public scrutiny and challenge some commonly held ideas about historical events.
  • To approach this history from ‘below’ by examining the actions and perspectives of those involved rather than the views of the contemporary establishment histories.
  • To recognise that the history of Bristol is inexorably linked to that of the Atlantic and former British colonies through its seafaring and trading activities.
  • To engage academics, local historians and the general public (including children) in the process through lectures, public debates, films and other events.

The events were a resounding success and showed that there was a significant public interest in radical history. Since then we have organised more than 250 events attended by thousands of people. Bristol Radical History Group group now operates within a much wider network of footballers, artists, techies, drunks, rioters, publicans, ranters, ravers, academics, Cancan dancers, anarchists, stoners and other ne’r do wells.

Industrial Workers of the World Dorset

The I.W.W. is a global union for all workers, seeking economic democracy and environmental sustainability through a fair distribution of resources and effort. In the meantime we fight for better conditions today, and demand respect for all workers using direct action and solidarity. Along the way, we have had many small victories against wage theft and victimisation simply by saying: “you can’t do that”.

Unlike trade unions we organise the worker not the job, so you can carry the union with you in and out of work, but members of other unions are welcome to join the I.W.W. as well. We are not linked to any political party or movement. We organise as we wish to live, all officers are unpaid volunteers directly elected by the membership and no one’s opinion counts more or less than any other, there are no leaders and there is no career ladder to climb.

Wessex Solidarity: South Coast Free Radicals

An affinity group for those in our region with an interest in anarchism, syndicalism or direct action, who share our goal of building a stateless, classless society around the principles of libertarian socialism.

Class struggle anarchism has never been more relevant or credible, owing to the abject failure of capitalism and representative democracy, or state ‘communist’ bureaucracies to meet the needs of the people. Surely now every other ideology is discredited. We aim to promote our ideas by constantly challenging the narrative of governments and the corporate media.

Our emphasis is on supporting workers’ struggles locally and globally, fighting inequality, oppression and fascism.

We’ll have a selection of seditious pamphlets, zines, badges, T shirts etc.
